star island, day 5
Aug. 5th, 2004 11:18 pmSplit more logs. These ones were quite evil, being of a wood type that refused to split neatly and required multiple wedges and the occasional judicious application of a hatchet to separate into pieces suitable for our fireplace.
Read about 1/2 of Dead in Dixie, a collection of three vampire novels by Charlaine Harris. Loads of fun, those books. And so far they haven't tipped over into soft porn like the Anita Blake books, which is reassuring. I don't quite know why so many vampire stories end up pornographic to some degree or other. *shakes head* Yeah, okay, the sexual aspects are kind of obvious, but there are such techniques as the fade to black and the discreet line of asterisks!
Went out for dinner with Dad. He had scallops; I had shrimp. The salad bar was kind of skimpy, but they had complimentary popcorn to start off with. Popcorn is a good thing.
Made brownies. Mmm, brownies...
Submitted chapter 3 of "First You Have to Get There" to FictionAlley. It turns out that Miss Cora, my other beta-reader, is still getting herself set up in Japan and wouldn't have been able to edit the chapter by this weekend, and I wanted it back by Sunday evening since I won't have internet access for a few days after Tuesday.
Also, I killed time just sitting on the dock in the sun and relaxing. God, I love the lake!
