Sent chapter 7 of "Secrets" to beta. Also stayed up far too late last night when "Restoration," my collection of post-war ficlets, suddenly developed a unifying theme and even a sort of plot. It was very odd, having the missing pieces just thwack me on the head out of the blue.
I blame it entirely on "Secrets." I've been trying to work Percy and Penelope Clearwater in smoothly, and then Penelope up and demnded to be informed about Percy's death in "Restoration." (Yes, I killed Percy. I killed a lot of people offstage in that story.) Then I was thinking about wars and campaign speeches, and McGonagall and Snape popped up at a memorial service, one year after the final battle.
And then Luna stuck her oar in again, the way she'd already done in three other ficlets, and it all sort of pulled together.
It's funny. I don't write without outlines anymore, but this didn't have an outline. Then again, it wasn't intended to be a story, just a set of ficlets in a shared post-war environment. By the time it decided it wanted to be a real story, I already had most of it written, so it was easy enough to go back and tweak details so the various ficlets flowed into each other better.
Writing is weird.
I really need to get a job.
