three things
Nov. 3rd, 2004 09:30 pmBah. Stupid election. Ah well, life goes on. In some fashion or other.
And damn, we so need to reform or ditch the Electoral College. Even though that wouldn't have made any difference this year. I was talking to some of my housemates last night while watching the news, and trying to explain the American electoral system (they're foreigners of various persuasions), and it really brought home how screwy some of our processes are.
Enough of that, though. I don't have the gift for channeling righteous anger into action, so I try to not be angry in the first place. It just upsets me and goes nowhere.
----------------------------------
Maintenance removed a bird's nest or something similar from our eaves this afternoon. This, of course, required setting up ladders right outside my window, on the roof of the little shop attached to the front of our house. I hate it when they clomp around at just the right height to see everything in my room! Invasion of privacy, goshdarnit! I avoid living on ground floors for a reason!
----------------------------------
Knocked off another 1000 words for NaNo, bringing me to 5,250 total. Also mostly finished naming and sketching the lords and ladies of the Inner Council, organized my thoughts about the political structure of Kanos, and gave Ranna both a steward and several ladies-in-waiting. Am realizing, as I write, how confining the life of royalty really is in some ways. That was always going to be part of the story, but it's really starting to hit home.
Plus I got to make up some clothing styles, which I find amusing. I'm pretty laid-back about clothes in real life -- I like things simple, comfortable, easy to move in, and easy on the eyes -- but for some reason I get a kick out of designing, loosely speaking, imaginary clothes. These are fairly European in intent, but with some vaguely Chinese/Japanese influences. Or something like that.
Ranna's half of the story is taking a lot of set-up work, but once I have that in place, it has a fairly clear plot line. Talin's needs relatively little set-up, but his plot meanders more and will probably need a fair bit of thumping and cursing before it pulls together. Oddly enough, this matches their respective personalities. *is amused*
