Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison, and oddly appropriate:

plants are love

I seem to acquire plants somehow -- I'm not really sure where at least five of my current ones came from. But others I buy when I'm feeling down. There's something about a new plant that makes it very hard not to be cheerful!

I realized I was approaching one scene kind of backwards -- I got too focused on all Ranna's supporting characters to the point where I was neglecting her internal thoughts and reactions, which is kind of my thing as a writer. And is also what I like about Ranna -- she schemes!

So I set that aside for the moment and am working on the bit where Talin and Bren get attacked by bandits en route to the city of An Cimhain. This isn't exactly their fault -- they had good reasons for taking the hill route instead of following the valley roads -- but is still something they should have been more prepared for.

The action sequence is fast approaching. I hate action sequences. Fortunately, I can fudge this one for various plot/characterization reasons relating to Talin's overall character arc, but sooner or later I'm going to run into not only individual action sequences, but whole set-piece battles. *sigh* This whole story is, in many ways, counter to what I usually write. But I love the setting, and I really like the character arcs and interactions. The rest kind of comes with the territory.

And now you know why I don't write 'epic' fantasy. I'm much more interested in the ways people get on with their lives and make difficult-if-everyday choices. Usually, anyhow; melodrama does slip in a bit more often than I really like to admit.

And that's enough rambling for today. Back to work, Liz, back to work...

P.S. Thanksgiving dinner went well. Have discovered that I merely dislike sweet potatos cooked in Jack Daniels, whereas I normally destest the stupid things. Also got roped into saying a sort of non-religious grace before we ate, as usual, as I am deemed the member of my nuclear family least likely to object to overt religious practices and my aunt, uncle, and grandmother expect some sort of blessing at major family gatherings.
