"Paint the Town" is finished.

Okay, so the last section needs massive editing before I even send it to beta -- it has no flow, the departure of the H/D/L threesome is awkward, and there is sudden Ginny!angst with no precedent that resolves itself way too easily -- but the point remains: there is now something there TO edit.

The trouble with the Ginny!angst is that it underlies her characterization throughout this story, but it kind of throws a gigantic monkey-wrench into the flow to make it explicit. Except if I leave it implicit, her reactions to Hermione get confusing. *beats head against wall* I hate, hate, hate characters who take on lives of their own. Hate them. Passionately.

They're almost more trouble than they're worth.

...I also wonder if people are going to think I'm being nasty to Ron. Well, he does get insulted a fair bit, but that's really because he goofs up during his one appearance and during the relevant backstory (to be fair, Hermione goofed up in the backstory as well), and so he gets sniped at. I think I managed to show that they're all still friends, but I'm not sure it's obvious enough.

*beats head some more*

Remind me again why I write? Because while it keeps me from going nuts with boredom and pushy ideas, I think I get equally crazy trying to make the ideas actually work.
