Apropos of nothing in particular:

When I was younger (ie, technically underage in America), I could drink a fair bit of alcohol before any noticeable effects set in. And the one time I did get drunk, as an experiment, I didn't actually get a hangover. (I admit that most of that is because I am a sensible person and drank a lot of water before going to sleep, but still.)

Then I spent a few years on anti-depressants, mostly Celexa and various generic versions thereof. An interesting thing about Celexa is that you're not really supposed to drink alcohol while taking the pills, because it intensifies the alcohol's neurologic effects. In other words, you get tipsy a lot faster on a lot less alcohol, and in my case, at least, I always woke up the next day feeling like I hadn't slept for nearly 48 hours.

The weird thing is that even though I'm not on medication anymore, I still get tipsy on less alcohol than I used to (glass and a half of wine, vs. three glasses pre-meds or half a glass with meds) and I still wake up tired the next day. The effect is not as pronounced, and is probably just as well since it keeps me from buying alcohol lightly, but it does make me wonder just what other totally unplanned side-effects psychoactive medications might have.

---------------------------------------------

We're still trying to hire extra help at the store, but apparently people keep lying about their traffic ticket records or making other errors of comparable stupidity -- seriously, people, we can and do check these things! -- so we're still running on very tight staff. That's okay for now, because the construction on the South Aurora St. bridge and the sewer work on restaurant row (the 100 block of S. Aurora) are acting as a brake on store traffic, but if PM, DB, or I get the flu, we're in big trouble.

Also, PM, the manager, is currently serving several months of grand jury duty. At the moment, this involves showing up every Tuesday, but I'm not sure how complicated that could get. *crosses fingers*
