Much insanity today. The books arrived, in their handy-dandy sealed boxes accompanied by a note ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDING us to open them before 12:01am on Saturday (which is a little silly since nobody is going to open them until I do it at about 7:00am... but okay, I get the point). We have also been trying to get all the daily list stuff for Saturday done ahead of time (except things that can't be done early, like newspaper returns, or call-in) so we won't be running around trying to do all the normal stuff on top of what we hope will be good sales.
Also, today SS from the mall (our store is one of three retail magazine shops owned by a magazine and newspaper distributing company, for reasons having to do with prices and logistics that I might explain some other time) was working in Ithaca because Manager PM wanted her to learn the procedure of a midday cashup. The mall store, you see, does very little business, so they only do one cashup a day... except right around Christmas, when there is apt to be a rush of people needing ticky-tacky little gifts and whatnot.
It turns out that PM seems to have misremembered their cashup procedure -- she told me to explain the stuff about timing and dealing with the registers while having customers in the store, but assured me that after SS took the drawers back, I could leave her to it since "She already knows that part." Well, um, actually... no, she kind of didn't. It's the same in principle, sure, but in practice, quite different.
...
I am toying with the idea of taking a bus to the mall and shopping for new shoes. I need a pair of nice black shoes that I can stand in for hours without killing my feet. My last pair of that nature fell apart nearly two years ago, and the replacements (while okay for office work, which is mostly done sitting down) are vicious to my poor toes after about an hour.
I'm kind of afraid of what the mall might be like, though. There's a Borders really close to two of the shoe stores I'd want to look through, and... you know, this sounds really silly coming from a person who writes HP fanfic, but Harry Potter fans scare me. :-)
Perhaps I should stay home and write instead.
