edenfalling: golden flaming chalice in a double circle (gold chalice)
Yesterday we got snow. And sleet. And whatever you call freezing rain that freezes somewhere above building-height and rattles down like miniature hail. And then more snow.

None of it was all that thick or deep on the ground, but it was definitely annoying to walk through.

Cornell closed Olin library, thus blocking me from internet access, and PM called me in to work 4-9pm (though it was my day off) because she was afraid the roads would get too dangerous for AD to drive home at closing time. AD and I both thought that was overly cautious, but what can you do? In any case, it was overtime, and I'm sure my budget will be grateful. :-)

---------------

We had a very short lesson this week, since we had to leave time to decorate ornaments and then go down en masse to hang them on the Christmas tree in the sanctuary. The book was The Snow Tree, which is about the forest animals missing color when surrounded by winter snow, and decorating a pine tree with small items to remind themselves of the other seasons. It's a fairly harmless story, though rather pretentious the way such not-quite-Christian-but-still-Christmas stories often are.

I'm teaching Sunday school again next week, after which I go home, finish packing, and wait for a to-be-determined family member to pick me up and head down to New Jersey.

---------------

The third thing that happened yesterday was the death of my old sneakers.

I am very hard on sneakers. I wear them at least 6 days a week, and I walk at least 40 minutes every day -- hard walking to a destination rather than aimless walking -- so I tend to wear them into the ground quite rapidly. The treads always wear off within six months or so, and the shoes themselves usually die altogether after nine to fourteen months. Basically, if they last a year, I'm happy.

So today I bought new sneakers. This was more difficult than I expected it to be -- I had to try on at least eight pairs to find one that wasn't too narrow, didn't have the arch support hitting my foot in strange places, fastened tightly enough around my ankle, and didn't have a funny protuberance against the side of my foot. My selection is limited by color as well -- I like plain shoes -- but even so, finding something as basic as sneakers shouldn't be this complicated!

Now I am heading home to have dinner and do the writing I didn't have time for yesterday. *sigh* I need a twenty-six hour day, I really do...
