Yesterday BW called in sick/sore/otherwise unavailable, so I covered his shift again. This has given me about six hours of extra work this week... offset by an hour I took off on Tuesday, so about a net five hour gain. That is more than enough to kick me into overtime.

My budget will be happy. My feet are not. :-)

Today, at least, I didn't have to stay late, though it actually felt odd leaving on time instead of gritting my teeth, drinking extra caffeinated beverages, and pushing on 'til closing.

---------------

Three pieces of writing news:

1. I just remembered that I need to be working on my story for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon. I will obviously not be posting as soon as we're allowed -- that's July 15th, for goodness sake -- but I'd like to have something up in early August, before I go to the lake.

I'm still very much in the 'let's throw some ideas up in the air and see if they're sparkly' phase of that project.

2. I'm continuing to reread "Secrets." Today I opened chapter 12 and made a few edits, mostly pruning out some repetition that had crept in over the past year when I was working so sporadically I always forgot whether I'd previously made a given point or not.

3. The other day, I made a rough outline of "Small Mysteries," one of my Ekanu stories, so hopefully that will proceed at a better pace. Next I need to outline the end of "Harvest," since I'm not at all sure how to pull the story threads together and I'd prefer to do my flailing in an outline rather than waste hours and pages on scenes that turn out to be useless. I've decided that since outlines (rough or detailed) work so well in fanfiction, it's long past time that I started applying the technique to original fiction as well.
