So hey, victory! I got the story done and posted just under the wire (11:53 for part 1, 11:55 for part 2), and though I'm sure if I read it again today, I'll find at least twenty stupid little things I want to fix (...of which I may actually tweak ten to fifteen, because yes, I really am that compulsive about editing), they should be fairly minor, just smoothing out the stage direction and flow.
I'll probably post a tidied copy on ff.net this weekend.
ETA, 10/3/08: The edits turned out to be a trifle more extensive than I'd expected -- I had to fix a canon point about Morwen's pointy hat (argh), and I extended the conversation about the masking spell on the locket, but in the greater scheme of things, these are still minor changes. The overall shape of the story remains the same; I've just sharpened some details. (And mentioned the reason the locket is green, since that had somehow fallen out of the story between my head and the page.)
---------------
Back in real life, work was okay. BW seems to be coming down with a cold, but he insisted on planning to come in at 9am tomorrow morning instead of calling PM and asking to only work 11am-6pm. This is stupid, because first, PM and JM are opening together and won't need BW until 11am; second, if he doesn't get enough sleep, he may deteriorate and need to leave early, which is bad because 4pm to at least 5pm is the really vital part of that shift; and third, the more sleep he gets tonight, the less chance of him being really horribly ill on Saturday, which is kind of important because he's opening alone and PM will be pissed off if she has to cover for him on the weekend.
