edenfalling: golden flaming chalice in a double circle (gold chalice)
Stuff I did today:

1. Bought replacement fingernails scissors, after putting it off several days. I had to hike out to Wal-Mart for them, as it turns out my grocery store does not carry any. Seriously, what kind of self-respecting grocery store doesn't carry something as basic as fingernail scissors?

2. Bought a new umbrella, as my old one was (literally) held together with packing tape. The new umbrella is kind of cheap, i.e. I don't think it has enough ribs to properly support the fabric expanse. It is also wine-purple colored. We shall see how it stands up to actual use.

3. Bought gauzy off-white 5-foot curtains and a curtain rod at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, making use of a $5 coupon. Then I installed them on my computer room window to supplement the full-window blackout curtains. You see, sometimes a woman wants a bit of light and air to come in (hence no blackout curtains) but does not want to be sitting in plain view of any passers-by. (I have a mild phobia of people watching me while I'm at a computer, regardless of how innocent my current activities may be. I don't mind people watching me work, or read books, or even dance around like an idiot, but people waching me write or read online gives me the creeping heebie-jeebies. I have never figured out why.)

4. Dithered over whether to get a new driver's license for $15 or to just get a sticker changing the address on my current license. I'm leaning toward a new license altogether, as my current picture is godawful. (Bad hair, bad earrings, bad shirt, bad necklace, bad expression. You get the picture.)

5. Gave the July NYSEG electricity bill for my old apartment to my landlords, Mr. and Mrs. B. It turns out they disconnected their house phone but never told me this, so all the messages I thought I was leaving them (look, there is still an answering machine hooked up to the number! the voice is Mrs. B's voice! my confusion is legitimate!) were never heard. So when I asked them to call NYSEG and confirm that the account switched from my name to theirs on July 1, well, that never happened. But they know now, so hopefully I will not get billed for August as well. And Mr. and Mrs. B have the July bill, so it is their damn problem and I wash my hands of the business.

6. Ate salmon for dinner, the second half of the fish I cooked last night. Mmm, salmon... :-)

And now that I am somewhat recovered from hiking along Rt. 13 in the 85 degree blazing afternoon sun (two months late and we are finally experiencing proper summer; I can't say I'm pleased; I quite liked the abnormal cool), I am off to attempt some writing. We shall see how this goes.
