At the moment, what I am mainly working on is the still-untitled Star Trek fic for [livejournal.com profile] valles_uf. Tonight I finished my backfilling of stuff so the pirates and the cause of the plague are properly foreshadowed (as well as why Adam, my main colonial character, is not getting sick), and I have explained more about how the Red Cross people are treating the plague and getting from village to village. I have also mentioned the Enterprise by name. \o/ Now I can bring on the pirates without getting tripped up by a lack of proper foundation!

7,300 words and counting, baby.

...

It's not that I can't write short ficlets -- I have an extensive list of 15-minute fics and gift!fics to prove otherwise -- but when an idea really grabs me, I tend to get way too involved in making it all make sense, which requires world-building and backstory and also often large casts of characters to differentiate from each other and give reasonable amounts of dialogue. And that takes time, and gets long. *sigh*

In other creative news, I am continuing to reacquaint myself with the source material for my Yuletide recipient's requested fandom, so as to see which of my three or four vague story ideas will fit best with canon. I have Friday and Saturday off work, so hopefully I will be able to start writing on Sunday or Monday.

And now to bed.
