Vacation '10, Day 7: Leaving the Island
Jul. 2nd, 2010 03:57 pmToday we had scrambled eggs and English muffins for breakfast. Mom and Dad like to eat them separately and put jam on their muffins, but I like to pile the eggs on the muffin as a sort of open-face sandwich. Mmmm.
My Aunt Jan (Dad's big sister) called and said she did not want to stay in the Twin Cities with her brother-in-law, and was changing her plan and arriving today instead of Sunday. So we have been cleaning the cabin in anticipation of her arrival. Dad and I also put on our swimsuits, got into the water, and fastened the boards that hold Jan's kayak down on the dock.
Now I am doing my laundry, so I can pack my suitcase. We are planning on an early dinner, around 5pm, so Mom and I can be on the mainland around 6pm and reach the Twin Cities hopefully not too long past 10pm. (Given the 4th of July weekend traffic, however, we are not counting on that; I will be happy if we arrive before midnight.)
The past few days have been very, very windy -- mostly a south-southwest wind -- but today is south-southeast, which is less good for us on the east shore of Star Island. Today, like yesterday, is also quite warm. I am going around the cabin barefoot quite comfortably. :-)
