1. My coworker MS is engaged in the rather extensive project of turning the contents of her cassette tape collection into mp3 files. I am not quite sure how she is accomplishing this, but I think a Walkman is involved.

This got me to thinking about my own meager music collection, and the odd fact that, while I have had my current computer for, what, three years now? -- and while my computer will automatically rip any music CD I play on it -- I still only had maybe a quarter of my music in my computer's memory. And we will not even talk about my cassette tapes.

So tonight I played a bunch of CDs, and now all of my CD collection is stored in my computer's memory. I am thinking of asking MS if she's willing to work her magic on my cassette tapes when she's done with hers. I have a bunch of music that I would hate to lose, my cassette player is kind of old and scratchy-sounding, and mp3s are much more mobile in any case.

2. In somewhat related news, I organized the lower shelves of the mini-bookcases that stand against my living room windows -- all the junk that was there is now either in more rational places, or consolidated onto only one shelf, thus freeing the others to hold my collection of books I mean to read someday. And that freed two shelves in a different bookcase to hold manga, which I need because of my Naruto buying spree a couple months ago.

3. In unrelated news, I hate writing. It is so illogical -- in one story, I am trying to expand a single paragraph into a scene, while in another I was stuck for months and finally figured out last night that what I need to do is compress a scene to a single paragraph.

Why does the same solution never work for any two stories?
