One thing I did tonight: partially disassembled a vacuum cleaner so as to remove a green highlighter pen from the hose attachment. I am not sure how it got in the hose attachment in the first place -- it is not the sort of thing one could casually vacuum up by accident, and I am at a loss as to why any of my coworkers might have vacuumed it on purpose -- but it was blocking the passage of crud into the storage bag and the resulting tangle of yuck had nearly blocked off the airflow entirely.

Anyway, that is now fixed.

Another thing I did tonight: wrote a very rough sketch outline of "Ashes," my post-apocalyptic fantasy novel, so as to have some idea where I am going with it when I try to write it for NaNo this year. I had the beginning and the ending in mind for years, but the middle only came to me last night and I wanted to get it down on paper before I forgot.

So yeah. A slow day.

ETA: And then someone vacuumed up the same damn highlighter again, which I found out when I realized the vacuum had no suction on Thursday, Oct. 7th, and tried to change the bag and clean the machine. Once MIGHT have been an accident. Twice is willful stupidity.

So I wrote a very annoyed note, which will hopefully stop the idiot responsible, whoever that may be. (My money is on BW, btw, since he is the only person who regularly uses the hose attachment on the platform behind the counters, and he's definitely unobservant enough that he might fail to notice that he's sucked up a highlighter along with dust, fallen cashews, and stray bits of tobacco.)
