I signed up for Yuletide last night -- which took me over three hours, ye gods; I thought I might go blind scrolling down the fandom lists -- and while that meant I was up way too late, my lost sleep was a necessary sacrifice because tonight I couldn't get my computer to both start and stay on longer than fifteen minutes at a time until after midnight. *headdesk*
I have to talk to the people at Best Buy tomorrow, because I am beginning to think this must be a hardware issue, and it has gotten ridiculous. Also, I want to get rid of Vista. *sour face*
This year I requested The Lions of Al-Rassan, by Guy Gavriel Kay; Lucifer by Mike Carey, Peter Gross, Dean Ormston, Ryan Kelley, et al; Joan D. Vinge's Psion series, which consists of Psion, Catspaw, and Dreamfall; and The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin. (Technically for that last one I had to sign up for the whole Hainish Cycle and request Shevek and Takver as characters, but whatever.) My letter with further details is here.
I know there have been complaints going around this year about the way the fandom nominations were run, and while I think there were very real issues and some of them were handled badly, I am consciously choosing to see the good instead of the bad and think about getting to write and receive a fic I would not otherwise write nor get to read, rather than the broken, stinky eggs involved in the process. That is, of course, only my personal decision, and I respect anyone who chose not to be involved, for whatever reasons.
And maybe tomorrow I will have my brain back and can resume working on my poor neglected NaNo. :-(
