What I did today: shoveled ALL THE SNOW. First I cleared the sidewalk around my house (a good three inches deep), then cleared the sidewalk at work three times (because if customers can't get to the shop, you are in trouble), and finally cleared the sidewalk at home a second time (about four inches deep). And it is STILL SNOWING.

My back and arms are going to hate me tomorrow. So are my legs and knees and ankles, since I spent most of the mile-long walk home wading through snow -- up to eight inches deep -- that hid a slippery base of compacted slush, while facing into the wind as it pelted me with tiny stinging flecks of icy wet snow. Yuck.

...

In other news, I downloaded Skype a couple days ago and Vicky and I tried to talk to each other this afternoon. We ended up having a weird combination of phone and IM conversation, because I could hear her but she couldn't hear me. It was only after we'd hung up that I figured out the problem: Skype, for some bizarre reason, was trying to read sound input from a device I don't own that would plug into a port I wasn't using... instead of, you know, the microphone plugged into the microphone port. *headdesk* Computers baffle me some days. They really do.

Anyway, hopefully next time we'll be able to actually talk.
