[Fic] "Parallel" -- Chronicles of Narnia
Mar. 16th, 2011 08:43 pmA couple years ago I tried to write a story about Jadis and her sister for Femgenficathon, which would intersperse the last days of Charn with flashbacks to their childhoods. That didn't quite work out -- I ended up writing about Jadis and the Lady of the Green Kirtle instead -- but I did finish one of the flashback sections, and I think it stands reasonably well on its own. So.
Jadis didn't meet her sister until they were seven years old. Until then, she had nothing but rumors and dreams. 650 words. (For timeline purposes, this takes place roughly six months prior to The Beginning of Wisdom, which takes place six years prior to By the Sword.)
[ETA: The AO3 crosspost is now up!]
( Parallel )
...I really must write their first meeting sometime. Or rather, the second through fifth meetings, as I'm sure those were more revealing -- the first meeting, after all, took place in formal court before their grandmother on her throne, and was neither the time nor the place for two young girls to actually get to know each other. Hmm. I would also like to write something in which their older brother and grandmother actually appear as characters, instead of only being mentioned off-page. Ah well, another day.
---------------
In unrelated other writing news, ch. 7 of "Strange Likeness" has gone a bit off the rails. It is already a couple hundred words over my self-imposed upper length limit, and it refuses to coalesce into any reasonable ending. Part of the problem, I think, is that I'm a little iffy on how I want to play two plot points that get introduced in the final scene, but I suspect I also took a wrong turn in the middle scene, since it feels a bit off near its conclusion, and also too flabby. *sigh*
Well, I will go beat my head against the story again and see if I get somewhere useful. Perhaps if I figure out the best place to start ch. 8, that will make the required end point of ch. 7 more obvious.
