I have been pretty much all fandom all the time for the past week or so. That happens sometimes.

In other walks of life, stuff has been happening:

1. On Saturday 12/31/11, my glasses broke. I went to put them on in the morning, and a little piece of metal that holds the earpiece to the lens frame snapped in half so the earpiece slid right off. This is not a screw issue; the screw is still firmly fastened to the half of the little metal connector that it goes through.

Possibly I can fix this with superglue, but in the meantime I am wearing my previous pair of glasses. They are all right for most purposes, just not so great for seeing fine details across a street or, you know, reading highway signs at useful distances. :-/

I needed to get my eyes checked and buy new glasses soonish anyway. This is just the universe giving me a kick in the ass. I will call for an appointment tomorrow.

2. In the wee hours of Sunday 1/1/12, my coworker PB was in a car crash down near Binghamton, which resulted in a ruined car and fifteen stitches in his right hand. We do not know the details yet, but he claims he's functional enough to close the store tomorrow (though his right thumb is apparently completely useless until further notice). I am working the 11am-6pm shift, so I will grill him then.

3. PB is lucky he missed work today, since it was our semi-annual inventory. I got in at noon and was told to count in and staff the register while everyone else counted things; I also collated finished sheets and vacuumed the floor, which was absolutely covered in salt, since the City of Ithaca got a little over-excited in anticipation of cold weather and snow flurries.

Despite that, I did not get out of counting things altogether. PM left instructions that if Monday night was slow, I should start the inventory early. Monday evening was DEAD AS A DOORNAIL -- seriously, I don't know why we were open; we did barely $250 of business in the seven hours from 2pm to 9pm, which is less than even a slow Sunday night that includes a big lottery payout -- so I counted a bunch of candles and also all the tea and coffee paraphernalia by the left display window. That involved pulling all the filters off the shelves because the newer ones were often priced higher than the older ones, and they had not been rotated properly. Grrr.

The good thing about inventory is that PM comps us all one free drink of our choice and also buys pizza for the staff. Since I closed, I got to take home the leftover slices that nobody else had claimed, which means I got a free dinner as well as a free lunch. \o/
