I drove down to NJ again Tuesday evening, watered plants and picked up my parents' mail, and drove back to Ithaca Wednesday afternoon. I took my usual route both times, which was fine today (aside from the tour bus full of senior citizens that stopped at the McDonalds at the Dunmore/Throop exit right when I stopped there to buy dinner) but was a nightmare Tuesday evening -- construction delays are of the devil.

Also I got trapped by a freight train for about five minutes in Owego, but that was more cool than annoying. Trains are neat. :-)

---------------

I didn't write anything Tuesday on account of travel and stuff, but I wrote another 200 words of "Secrets" ch. 15 tonight for a new total of 8,100 words. I really need to reread the rest, though, because if this is the final scene I have to resolve things and I have to make sure I'm gathering the right threads.

Argh.

I don't want to reread the story. The fourteen posted chapters are about 145,000 words long! That's twice as long as "The Way of the Apartment Manager," or like three NaNoWriMo victories in a row! And it rambles! A LOT! Plus most of the rambles are angsty, and Ginny spends way too much time thinking about ethics, and she has too many damn brothers, and also there's too much theory of magic world-building stuff, and random Herbology lessons, and OCs all over the place and...

I don't actually dislike "Secrets." It's not my best work on a technical level -- it does ramble quite a bit, Ginny's apparent mental/emotional age is... variable, shall we say, and on a purely sentence-by-sentence level the writing is kind of clunky (which is annoying because I have to keep on being clunky to make new chapters match the older ones) -- but it makes Ginny the hero of her own story, has a bunch of female OCs I am quite fond of, has a damn good portrayal of Tom Riddle (if I do say so myself), and kludges Hogwarts into being somewhat more of a functional school than it ever seems to be in canon. Also, okay, I like the theory of magic stuff and the random Herbology (and Potions) lessons, even if they are most likely extraneous. It's my story. Readers can damn well deal with my quirks.

But aaaah, I am too lazy to read that many of MY OWN words.
