greetings from New Jersey!
Nov. 21st, 2012 09:55 pmI hit the road just before 9:30am, and aside from one bit on I-81 where I got trapped behind a pissing contest between a truck and an SUV (neither could quite pass the other, and neither was willing to concede, pull back, and let other vehicles past them) and a rather parking-lot like couple miles around the transition from I-80 to I-287 (which I blame on construction as much as anything), it was an absurdly smooth and easy trip. No traffic jams whatsoever! In fact, I do not think I have ever seen the Delaware Water Gap less congested, except when I was passing through around 11pm at night on a weekday heading east.
I arrived at my parents' house at about 1:40pm, whereupon Mom, Vicky, Aunt Cara, and I promptly headed right back out on a vineyard tour thing. Which was perhaps not the best choice of activity on the day before Thanksgiving, since it involved a lot of driving... but Vicky and her map app came to the rescue and saved us from the inevitable jams by means of clever county road routes. :-) We visited Old York Cellars and Unionville Vineyards, after which we called it a day and headed home -- again mostly on county roads (even detouring through a random suburban housing development!) until we got onto I-287 heading north. I bought three bottles of wine, mostly so I will have something available for celebratory drinks when I finish my Yuletide and Ladystuck assignments. :-D
We then had happy hour and dinner, I did a load of laundry (because I take advantage of free washers and dryers whenever I can; laundromats are expensive!), my parents and Aunt Cara watched a bunch of MSNBC, Vicky went running and baked a cranberry pecan tart for tomorrow (which I will not be eating, because pecans, blecch), and now I am debating whether to try writing something or to just go to bed.
(I am somewhat doubtful of my ability to write coherently, since I have probably drunk over four glasses of wine during the past seven hours and my alcohol tolerance never really recovered from the hit it took while I was on antidepressants -- no really, you have no idea how many stupid typos I have deleted from this post -- but what the heck, maybe that lack of filters could be useful for writing porn...)
