Greetings from New Jersey yet again! I am down here on my last flash-housesitting visit of the year. The whole trip was shifted about an hour later than I would have preferred, partly because of scheduling weirdness at the smoke shop and partly because I then got distracted by the internet for half an hour when I was on my computer for a necessary task before leaving.

(Long story A: usually when a shift officially ends at 5pm, one can slip out up to 45 minutes early. Except in this case Boss Lady and Lemme-Tell-Ya were both scheduled to leave at 4pm, which meant I was the only one on the clock and couldn't leave until Puppydog arrived for his shift, which couldn't happen until he got out of classes, so I didn't end up punching out until about 5:20pm, bleh. Long story B: so it turns out that my parents did NOT, in fact, leave their registration card in the car when they dropped it off in Ithaca. Nor did they leave the insurance card. I have been driving their car without registration or insurance documents since July, whoops! I do now have an insurance card, since the old one expired and they gave me the new one while I was in Minnesota, but they had to email me a photo of their copy of the registration card, which I printed and clipped into the gas mileage book this evening before hitting the road.)

I am not hugely fond of night driving; headlights are bright and evil and you can't shift side mirrors to night view like you can with the interior mirror. On the other hand, traffic clears out beautifully after eight or nine o'clock, so even though I drove a few mph slower than I would've in daylight, I whizzed right on through all the construction sites. It balances out.

I have no plans with Susan, alas; this is a business-only trip. I will pick up my parents' mail tomorrow by noon, call them to sort through what to leave here and what to send to Cass Lake, and then head back up to Ithaca.

...

I have two days off in a row next week, during which I will still have the car. I should take a day trip or something. Maybe Watkins Glen State Park? Or I could just go to the Corning Museum of Glass again. That place never gets old, and I wouldn't have other people hurrying me through exhibits before I can finish reading all the wall plaques. Or I could hit up some wineries on the west shore of Seneca Lake, which my family has never done because of time limitations. *ponders options*
