When the signups opened, I spent several hours browsing through the tagset, both to see what I could offer and to find things I wanted to request. These do not always overlap, you see -- there are a lot of childhood literary fandoms I love to pieces and am thrilled to write for, but that is not the same as a burning desire to read a particular story.

I have been in the habit of carrying over all unfulfilled requests from year to year, but I was unable to do that this year because nobody nominated The Lions of Al-Rassan. Dammit. Okay, maybe this year I will start a file for things I would like to request and then actually participate in the 2014 nominations.

I did carry Lucifer over, because I live in hope. I also decided to carry over The Dispossessed even though I received an awesome fic about Odo last year. Maybe this year I will get a fic about Shevek, or world-building in general, or even Odo again -- I think it is very unlikely I will ever not be pleased to get a fic about anything in that corner of the Ekumen.

Then I added three new fandoms, because why not. In Macbeth, I asked for a story about Lady Macbeth and her husband in happier days, because I love how they work together (even if toward bad ends) and wanted to see more of that partnership. In Villains by Necessity I asked for world-building about religion, because if ever a world needed (and deserved!) some thoughtful building, that one does. And in Black Jewels, I did something wildly out of character and asked for a fic in which Karla has a happy and fulfilling sex life, goddammit, and went so far as to outline my tastes in femslash porn because when I say sex life, I do, in fact, mean sex life. *resolve face*

You can find my Dear Yuletide Writer letter here. (Now I just need to go get it onto the spreadsheet...)

Today was the day I Did All The Things.

1. Mailed a package to my Aunt Jan, consisting of three bars of fancy scented soap -- she liked the ones I'd bought her for Christmas in previous years and said she'd reimburse me if I purchased some more. So I did. (I also emailed her a bill. *wry*)

2. Returned two library books. (Also checked out three new ones and put a hold request on a fourth.)

3. Got a haircut! No more hair falling in my eyes, or doing that annoying flippy thing on the nape of my neck! Well, at least not for another six weeks or so.

4. Attempted to buy a new case for my cell phone, since the old one is kind of broken. Failed. Either the Verizon kiosk at the mall just doesn't have a lot of stock, or my phone is already obsolete, because none of the cases were shaped right to fit around the buttons and camera of my phone, grrr. (It's a Samsung Gem, if you were interested.)

5. Bought groceries for the week. Food is good. So are shampoo and conditioner.

6. Did laundry, including my summer blanket, which needed to be put away for the winter. One of the three washing machines failed to drain, so I had to wring all my linens out by hand before putting them into the dryer. Double grrr.

7. Downloaded and organized a bunch of photos I'd taken over the past three weeks.

8. Made a phone date with my sister for tomorrow night, since we haven't talked in a while.

9. Signed up for Yuletide, yay!

10. Changed my sheets and towels.

And last but not least...

11. Got my period. Fucking cramps. *eats chocolate ice cream and fantasizes about kicking evolution in the teeth*

---------------

Things I did not manage to do:

1. Sign up for Ladystuck. That is a project for Monday or Tuesday, I suspect.

2. Write more of "Trollstuck." Well, really, when did I have any time? But even so, that annoys me. Hopefully I will have more success tomorrow.

---------------

The thing about to-do lists is you have to be realistic. There are a bunch of things I would like to do this month that I carefully did not put on today's list, because I knew there was no way in hell I'd get to them. As it is, I only missed two items.

I also like to put on basic things like "get up at X time," "shower & breakfast," "eat lunch," "eat dinner," "bed at Y time," partly because they remind me that life has a basic rhythm, and partly because it is rewarding to check things off the list, so it's a good idea to write down some gimmes. :-)
