Blurgh.

So Friday I basically slept all day (well, aside from walking into town to pick up my library book, and laundry). Then today I worked from 9am to 4pm, after which I took the bus out to the mall because I need new shoes.

Both my right and left sneakers have at least two holes each, which is not great in general and particularly not great when it rains. But alas and alack, the shoe store at the mall (at least, the one I use, which is the one that isn't the absolute cut-rate discount place) had my current style of shoe... in literally every size EXCEPT mine. Everything from 5.5 up to 9.5? Sure! But not 6.5, sorry, nope.

There was another shoe style very similar -- the main difference is in the set of the laces and some of the piece-work on the sides, and that had ONE pair in 6.5... except nope, whoops, it was 6.5 WIDE. My feet are not the narrowest in the world, but they already slosh a little from side to side in regular sneakers, so wide is completely out of the question. I also tried my current style on in a size 7, just in case... but as I suspected, my feet sloshed forward and back in those, and that's no use for shoes I intend to wear seven days a week for a year.

The very nice employee who helped me drag down some of the boxes (did I mention they were way up on top of the shelves, like twelve feet in the air?) couldn't say when they might get a 6.5 version of my current shoe in -- apparently their deliveries are kind "what the shoe companies feel like sending, when they feel like sending it," so I said screw it. I will apply duct tape to my shoes tomorrow and check back in a couple weeks, at which point if they don't have the right shoes I will give in an spend some time trying to find the least bad alternative.

Then I bought groceries, rode the bus back home, showered, and took a nap.

...

I should mention that in addition to the cold and/or flu of death, I seem to have rubbed my eyes when I shouldn't have and now have conjunctivitis, more strongly in my right eye than my left. It's mostly just a sort of itchy/leaky sensation, and some crusty yuck that I have been rinsing out with water every few hours (also, eyedrops, because ugh). This is frankly kind of embarrassing -- I think the last time I had pink eye, I wasn't even fifteen years old. :-(
