From the department of Things I Am Not Writing Now, So Please Stop Trying To Get My Attention, Dammit: the opening scene of "A Change of Season," which is the probably-novel-length sequel to "Out of Season" and "To Every Thing There Is a Season."

Expandwhich I am now going to post because putting it out in public will remind me that I need to write it SOMEDAY. just not today )

Then we jump to Anvard the next morning, shortly before the Narnian attack, rather than follow Ilgamuth across the desert. (I am trying to write about events in Calormen that occur in HHB's aftermath, you see, not to recapitulate the entire book.) And then after the battle itself, I think we'd jump to Calormen and Shezan getting news of the catastrophe (but probably not the curse, just yet; Archenland and Narnia will try to keep that secret as long as possible)... but that is a story for another day. *wry*

1. The weird pain in the right side of my throat seems to be slowly fading -- my best guess is that I have an inflamed lymph node or something, but who even knows what's going on there -- so I figured I was probably healthy enough to get a flu shot. Which I did.

I have had mildly idiosyncratic reactions to flu shots in the past, most notably the time when I woke up in the middle of the night with inexplicable pins-and-needles in my hands and feet that lasted for a few hours. Anyway, this time after I got home from running errands (which also included grocery shopping), I found myself suddenly really tired, so I took a nap. I was also really cold -- I mean, my apartment was around 70F because I'd forgotten to turn down the thermostat, and I was under a sheet, my good comforter, and a fleece throw, but I was still so cold I curled into a little ball and shivered a bit. I also had mild and transient pins-and-needles, but since I've gotten up and eaten dinner, all those symptoms seem to have passed, leaving only the expected soreness around the injection site.

I guess pins-and-needles is how my body reacts to vaccines now? Oh well, it could be worse.

2. I very belatedly wrote up a summary of what happened in last week's RE lesson, so the two co-teachers who weren't there but who will be teaching tomorrow will have a better sense of how to lead into part two of the lesson. I think we should begin doing this regularly, since I guess not everyone reads the previous week's lesson for reference. That seems weird to me, but my co-teachers are all parents of small children which necessarily reduces their free time.

3. Tonight I had my first helping of the stiry fry with my jalapeƱo peppers in it. Turns out they are hardly spicy at all, which left the stir fry weirdly bland and also sweet, because there was nothing to counterweight the onion. :-( So I doused it in soy sauce, because mmmm salty goodness.

In other culinary news, since the remaining pain in my throat is completely unrelated to my actual throat -- it is off to the side and is only noticeable when I swallow, which seems to put pressure on the problem area -- I am once again able to drink Coke! Yay!!! Man, I love Coke. It tastes unfamiliarly sweet, since I think I have drunk literally one can over the past twenty days (when my mom visited, before I had that minor relapse), but I'm sure I'll reacclimate fast. :-)

4. Last but not least, as of yesterday I have posted over 100,000 words of fiction this year! I'm not sure how many words I've written this year, since I am so scattered that trying to track my actual writing habits would be an excercise in futility and frustration, but it's probably around the same number, give or take a few thousand.

(By which I mean, some things I posted this year are fics I started writing up to four years ago and much of the work happened a long time previously... but similarly, I have started and worked on a bunch of other fics this year that aren't currently finished and thus don't appear in my wordcount, and may never appear there until and unless I finish them in future years. Like I said, I am a very scattered writer.)
