a pleasant day :)
Jul. 10th, 2016 10:29 pmThings done today:
1. Staked (maybe temporarily?) most of my peppers because they'd tipped over under unexpectedly heavy rain. I can't even grumble because ye gods, we needed that rain. Now we need seven more days just like that and we might start getting back to normal water levels for this time of year. *sigh*
2. Attended a 'cottage meeting' with about twelve other members of my church to talk about who we are as a congregation, what we want in a minister, and where we think our congregation should be heading. This is part of the settled minister search process; the search committee will be holding a bunch more of these meetings over July and August, and will compile the results into a sort of church profile that will hopefully make us look attractive to UU ministers looking for new jobs.
3. Finished editing Vicky's next story. This one's an actual novel -- admittedly, a short novel, but still. A novel! So it's more romance than erotica, really, though it still has a couple sex scenes. I am doing a combination of typo-catching, minor rephrasing to improve clarity and flow, continuity editing (does Person A's story about thing X in ch. 8 agree with what he said in ch. 2, etc.), some general 'hang on, that doesn't make sense' troubleshooting, occasional tweaks to punch up drama or add more concrete details, and some general first reaction stuff so she can check if the emotional effects she's producing are the ones she wanted to invoke.
I can't write genre romance worth a damn myself, but I have read enough of them over the years (and that's not even getting into fanfic) that I know where the beats need to go and how to play them up. :)
4. Made some tagset nominations and started brainstorming my requests for this year's Narnia Fic Exchange. I am keeping the two that didn't get filled last year -- Aravis meeting Rabadash pre-HHB, and my perennial wish for Lucy/Sea Girl femslash -- and adding three new ones. At the moment, they are a request for a story about the Telmarine royal court in the two decades pre-PC (very open-ended), a story about Rilian and the Lady of the Green Kirtle (which I will have to think about in order to be clear what I want), and a story about Charn (again, very open-ended).
