twelve peppers, Monday, 15 August 2016
( four more photos under the cut )
I posted this on Tumblr last night and then went to bed rather than deal with crossposting a bunch of embedded images over here. But the photos themselves are definitely from Monday. :)
Anyway, my plants did well for themselves while I was away in New Jersey from Wednesday to Sunday. The early bloomer is now growing two itty-bitty teeny-tiny actualfax peppers, as illustrated in photo #2. Meanwhile, several other plants are getting ready to bloom real soon now. Yay flowers!
My tiny zombie pepper seems to have genuinely recovered from its extended near-death battle with fusarium wilt... which suggests that I should probably stop calling it a zombie. Perhaps Lazarus would be more appropriate? ;)
As you can see, the central pepper in the row closest to the camera in photo #1 has taken on a slightly unhealthy yellow tint in its lower leaves. I think this is because it catches the edge of the waterfall that pours from the malfunctioning gutter over my kitchen windows, and so is suffering from too-wet soil and also nutrient leaching. I gave all the plants a small drink of fertilizer this afternoon, and mixed some ground up eggshells into the soil for good measure. (Apparently the calcium is good for them? *shrug* I've been cooking and eating a lot of hardboiled eggs this year so it's not exactly hard to save the shells.) Hopefully that will help my brave and adorable peppers as they shift into producing fruit. :)
