on winter and chores
Dec. 5th, 2018 03:03 pmI always forget how much I dislike winter until it arrives in force. *sigh*
Then again, I dislike every season in its turn. Spring is too muddy and unpredictable, and sets off my hayfever. Summer is TOO HOT, very often TOO HUMID, and full of insects. Fall is once again muddy and unpredictable, and full of DEAD LEAVES, ugh. And winter is TOO COLD, TOO DARK, and TOO DRY -- though at least the damn insects aren't a bother anymore. Also I like winter clothes better than summer clothes, generally speaking. They're cozy. *wry*
(Before you ask, no, I have never considered moving to a place that doesn't have seasons. I enjoy disliking each season in turn, and I'd feel existentially unsettled without the steady round of changes.)
Anyway, so far today I have cleaned more of my pepper pots (having frozen and dumped their erstwhile inhabitants), cleaned my bathroom, bought a new set of earbuds for my phone, and attended an orientation session for a college leadership society that I joined mostly because of potential scholarships and recommendations in future years. I have also made an initial stab at organizing and filing/tossing the piles of assorted Stuff that have been accumulating on my tables and counters for the past couple months. I take a metaphorical axe to them every now and then, and today "now" has once again arrived.
Also I need to vacuum. Ugh. And then I get to... let's see... start a batch of veggie sidedish, superglue a couple of the terracotta pepper pots back together, schedule phone dates, and maybe re-pot a pepper I plan to overwinter.
But first, I think, it's time for my daily walk -- cold or no cold, exercise is good for both body and mind, and I'd like to enjoy what little light I have as we approach solstice. :)
