5 things make a post
Aug. 9th, 2019 09:07 pmThings and stuff:
1. I am back in Ithaca after my flying visit to NJ. The drive back took slightly over five hours, which is because A) I got delayed by several heavy rainstorms, and B) I stopped for a 15-minute nap at the NY welcome center. In other trip-related news, I was unable to return Dad's long-handled garden shears because they turned out to be about six inches too long to fit into my suitcase and I suspected the bus company would not appreciate me trying to bring them on as carry-on luggage. *wry* I will instead return them in September when I make a flying visit to deal with my parents' mail and water Mom's plants.
2. Did you know that McDonald's offers an alternate "meal" option where you can have a side salad instead of fries? I just discovered that on this trip. Now I need to calculate whether the deal is cheaper than just buying a fish sandwich (or nuggets) and the salad as separate items, because I don't really need that much soda in my life, you know?
3. Things I did at work today:
-----A) unbox twenty bar stools that we ordered to replace old ones in four of our apartments. They came in individual boxes with absurd amounts of paper padding. I wound up with four full boxes of paper packing insulation, and another box full of flattened and folded boxes. My shoulders and back were already unhappy with me since I slept funny on my right shoulder last night, but the repetitive motions of unboxing certainly did not help. :(
-----B) drag four window fans to one of our properties, unbox them, install them, and check that they worked.
-----C) go back to re-photograph several apartments since we got a new furniture shipment on Monday and it's good to have our website photos as up-to-date as possible. I also photographed several new apartments, one of which is annoying because it's been remodeled in the past few years but we don't have an updated floor plan so now the floor plan and the photographs very obviously don't match. I think I might try to photocopy one of the floor plans and then manually tweak it with white-out and Sharpie until I have something a bit more truthful...
-----D) continue uploading photographs to Rent Manager, which is the program from which we draw a lot of our website documents. I intensely dislike their image management protocols.
-----E) have no computer access for most of the morning because my computer decided to install mandatory updates at 9:15am and took two hours to finish configuring and restarting. I mean, it could have been worse! It could have kicked me off before I could clock in! But it was still very frustrating.
4. I came home Wednesday to discover that my poor tomatoes had all been knocked over by rainstorms while I was gone. I righted them, and then two of them promptly got knocked over again by an intense thunderstorm on Thursday afternoon. Ugh, weather.
5. Tomorrow I'm going to try getting a haircut before work. Hopefully my guy will be in. :)
