I woke up feeling kind of ishy today -- a sort of intermittent stabbing pain up the right side of my throat and jaw, and a sense that my body's internal thermostat was glitching. But I figured it would get better once I showered and ate and went to work, as these things often do.
It did not.
Instead, I started getting a headache, and periodic shivers, and a sort of watery feeling in my knees. So I went home just before noon, ate a little something for lunch, and then slept until 7:30pm with occasional interludes of waking to the disconcerting sensation that I was encased in a block of ice despite my apartment being a balmy 71 degrees Fahrenheit.
Anyway, I've showered again and had a bit of dinner, and my internal thermostat seems to have more or less settled back out though my throat and jaw still hurt when I swallow. I'm going to fall back into bed soonish since I would like to not miss work again tomorrow and sleep seems like the most effective medicine at this point.
...
Also I need to buy an electronic thermometer, because I discovered this afternoon that neither of my cheap mercury thermometers works and the weird container of free forehead strip thermometers were convinced that my body temperature was about 95.5 degrees this afternoon. Now, my normal body temperature does run a bit low -- I seem to average about 97.6 to 98.4 degrees -- but that is flat-out ridiculous. I would like to have a reliable way to tell if and when I have a fever.
