What I did today: created a spreadsheet to track our winter inspection findings, and then joined C. from Maintenance to inspect all our properties east of a certain street. We look for several things: are there windows left open? Is the heat level okay? (And in the one building where the heaters are under the tenants' direct control, did they leave the heat on at all?) Are there any leaks or drips? Is there a residual odor of cigarettes and/or pot, or actual physical evidence like ashtrays or bongs? What is the general cleanliness level (so we have a heads-up on apartments that will be a problem at turnover)? And then various other issues, like dismantled smoke alarms, broken doors/walls/furniture, and general whatever. We also turn off lights when we find them on, and lock front doors when we find them open.

I then entered the data and printed out blank spreadsheets for the remaining buildings, for Miss California to use when inspecting them on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe she and C. from Maintenance will get through all of them, but I kind of doubt it given the size of the buildings in question, in which case I will finish whatever is left on Thursday.

Today's upshot is that we found one room that smelled of smoke, one room that smelled of pot, a bunch of open windows (now firmly closed), a few illicit air conditioners, a few "how do you LIVE like this?" messes and stenches, two nonfunctional toilets, two people who thought it was a great idea to switch off all their breakers (spoiler: this is not a good idea and we switched them all right back on), two apartments that might as well be ovens (cause unknown), and one unlocked apartment door.

Also my feet now hate me.

Proper story words written today: none

Outlining done today: a fair bit, actually! I worked out the character motivations for the stalled prompt ficlet, which means I can now get back to choreographing the fight scene. I also fixed some of the problems in my rough scene breakdown of an original fiction gift story I have owed my friend Susan for... an embarrassingly long time, now. That story still needs a bit more background worldbuilding before I can start writing -- at the moment there are still a bunch of placeholders like [Magical Threat] and [Fictional University Library].

Tomorrow's goal is to turn some of that work into actual story progress. :)
