I think I mentioned a while back that I'd attempted to set up online payments for my health insurance, and made a payment on February 10, right? Anyway, there have been Issues around that payment: namely, that the money has still not been withdrawn from my bank account.

On the 18th, I contacted my insurance company (via their helpful online form) to say, politely, something to the effect of, "Hey, I made this payment and it doesn't look like it's gone through. What the heck?" They wrote back to the effect of, "Everything looks good on our end. Talk to your bank."

So I wrote to my bank, who wrote back to say, more or less, "We have no record whatsoever of this transaction. Can you get a trace number from the insurance company so we can try to figure out what the heck?"

So I wrote to the insurance company again, and they just wrote back to tell me, "Yeah, turns out all electronic payments people made to us on February 10 had processing issues. Who knew! Anyway, it's not you, it's us, and we'll let you know when we figure out what the heck."

Which on the one hand is reassuring since I figure that I have clearly done MY part to get my payment in on time so they can't legally ding me for THEIR fuck-up. But on the other hand, what the heck kind of company are they running over there?!

Things done today:

1. Listened to the latest episode of Sawbones. Grave-robbing is always a fun topic. :)

2. Rental company office 9am-7pm. Aunt Boss returned from her trip, but worked short hours on account of it being Cornell's February break. I answered some apartment inquiry emails, handled packages, and in the morning fielded several calls from tenants who somehow failed to read the email Maintenance sent them on Friday about a temporary water shut-off in one of our buildings from 10am to noonish. *headdesk*

In other rental company news, we currently have no mailboxes in one of our big apartment buildings. This is because they were removed on Friday so they could be repainted as part of an ongoing renovation project, but that fell through due to contractor issues. (Which I will not summarize here, but trust me, the contractor is a jerk and this is entirely on them.) Now the soonest we can get a new contractor to step in is next weekend. In the meantime, we're keeping all the mail for that building's tenants in a cardboard box in our office, because of course we are. *double headdesk*

3. Finished chapter 6 of A Fistful of Shells.

4. Wrote three 3-sentence ficathon fills. One is actually three sentences. One is four sentences because the rhythm broke when I tried jamming the last two sentences together. And the third I gave up on structural restrictions by the second paragraph and let it turn into a proper short fic. (That one is also original fiction, which doubtless has something to do with it getting out of hand. Once you introduce actual characters rather than just an idea, you need a little space to let them breathe since you don't have the shared shorthand context of fanfic to lean on.)

5. Paid my March rent.

6. Wrote my to-do lists for the week.

7. Agreed to work 9am-6pm tomorrow at Not the IRS instead of noon to 6pm.

And on that note, I should probably finish dinner and get to bed. *wry*
