It took me a bit longer than I'd hoped, and I didn't get the opening section rewritten to switch around character motivations to match what they ended up being later in the story, but I have swapped tenses all the way through to the end of my rough draft of the Narnia/Naruto crossover, and filled all the hasty outline bits into proper narrative.

And then I set the line spacing to 1.5 and printed the whole damn thing. All 45 pages, what even.

Tomorrow I am going to give my mind a break and work on something completely different. Possibly Wednesday as well. And then... well, then I will pull out my red pen (yes, a literal red pen; it's both very high contrast and it makes me happy to imagine stabbing the awkward sections until they bleed) and edit the story within an inch of its metaphorical life. :D

Current word count is 13,240, for the record. It's going to get longer, because I need to insert descriptive passages at various points, backfill some family history and character motivation stuff that became relevant toward the end of the story, and also flesh out the final scene so it carries the proper emotional weight because I kind of sprinted through all that in the initial draft.

...

This is not canon for the Naruto side of the crossover, for one very specific reason, but I think it is canon for the Narnia side, which makes me kind of uncomfortable. I've never written a crossover unbalanced in that specific way. Usually they're obviously non-canonical for both series -- or in one case written deliberately to act as a potentially canonical gap-filler for both series -- but I wound up putting a lot of my worldbuilding ideas about Narnia in the first years of Jadis's rule into this story.

I think it will have to go on my Narnian timeline despite the crossover weirdness, and that is a deeply strange thing for me to say. *hands*
