mosquitoes are the worst
May. 22nd, 2020 06:07 pmToday I have been awake since about 5:30am and I am not pleased about losing two hours of precious sleep.
See, I woke up around then to answer a call of nature, went back to bed, and was just about to drift off... when a mosquito buzzed directly in my ear.
Let me tell you, that is a heck of a jolt of adrenaline. I did kill the mosquito -- turned my lights on and stalked it across my bedroom until I could smash it against one wall -- but it is extremely difficult to get one's body to stand down from a sudden jolt, especially when one's subconscious (which is, of course, louder and louder as one gets closer to sleep) is then primed to react to every shift of the air or wisp of noise as a potential threat. *sigh*
...
Work was slow-ish. I sent some electricity turn-on emails to NYSEG, sent some "hey your lease ends soon and we don't have your keys" reminder emails to outgoing tenants, and some apartment information emails to potential new tenants. Then I noted these actions in various spreadsheets so we have an up-to-date record of where we stand in the turnover process.
Now I have a five-day weekend, because the office will be closed for Memorial Day and so my next shift isn't until Thursday the 28th. I mean, I get paid for Memorial Day because of holiday compensation and stuff, but still. That's a bunch of hours I have to fill with something. Probably that will mostly be reading.
Oh, and I wrote and mailed a card to my cousin Eric, since I mailed one to my cousin Brian a few days ago, and one to my cousin Michael (other side of the family) last week.
I also seem to have opened email correspondence with Aunt Cara and Aunt Jan, since they replied to my physical cards with emailed notes. This is a little awkward but probably a good thing -- I've sort of absently thought, for a long time, that we should communicate more but I never got around to doing anything about it. It's weirdly nice to have a "reason" for opening communication instead of just sending an email out of the blue saying "hey we never talk; let's change that!" you know? Or maybe that's just me. I tend to overthink social interactions.
