various things make a post
Dec. 27th, 2020 08:49 pmIn the event, Susan and Patrick's garage door opener broke, and then the failsafe emergency cord broke. So they were stuck for several hours trying to essentially disassemble their garage door in order to get their cars out and return to Madison. Fun times!
They did escape eventually, and I drove over to exchange gifts around 9pm instead of 4pm. We sat outside in the freezing cold and then took a short walk in the freezing cold (and dark; it was very dark) and talked for... 45 minutes, give or take? That sounds about right.
So that was nice.
This morning Mom, Dad, and I had quiche for breakfast, which was tasty and also not something I'd ever thought of as a breakfast food even though logically it fits neatly into the "egg dish" category. Cultural preconceptions are weird! I also did a tiny load of laundry so I returned to Ithaca with no dirty clothing. Occasionally I manage efficiency. *wry*
The drive went smoothly, and I only passed two cop cars that had pulled other drivers over. Oh, and I should mention I currently have the Sienna minivan instead of the Camry, because the Camry needs its annual service checkup and also it looks better for registry and insurance purposes if it actually spends some time physically in my parents' possession.
...I really need to buy a car. I think with my sideways promotion I may finally have enough money for that. And while I don't want to move (I like my apartment! I am used to all its quirks!), if I had a car I could probably find somewhere cheaper a bit further out of town, to sort of equalize the financial outlays.
Anyway, I am safely back in Ithaca. I have partially unpacked, eaten dinner, and hastily paid my January rent. I should probably also write my thank-you notes -- I've picked out the cards and put stamps and return address labels on the envelopes -- but somehow that sounds like too much work. Ah well. Perhaps I will continue browsing the Yuletide archive instead, or maybe even write some words of my own.
Oh! And speaking of words: as of last night, I am exactly 88 words short of reaching my
getyourwordsout goal for 2020. Admittedly my goal was only 75,000 words, but considering how little I wrote in 2018 and 2019 (and that I only hit ~70,000 words for 2016 and 2017), I think that is a pretty cool accomplishment!
I have signed up again for next year, at the same 75,000 word target. I feel that I have gotten a bit more back into the habit of writing, but I don't know that I have it in me to hit 150,000 words, which is the next lowest goal.
...
You know what? I am going to go write things now. *resolve face*
