edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (question marks)

I finished the second draft of my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon story last night. I still think it's kind of flabby and 'meh,' but I fixed the inexcusable canon error and corrected some minor other goofs.

Anyway, of my two HP betas, one is on vacation and the other is dealing with a recent move, a new job, and wedding plans. I don't want to dump this on them.

Is anyone willing to beta read "Along the Way" for me? I'm looking for a critique of story flow, narrative tone, characterization, theme, and coherance rather than a strict spelling-and-grammar check (though more eyes hunting typoes are always welcome!). I also would like a canon check, because I know I have a tendency to forget stupid things. (Like, in this case, the fact that Hermione had two children, not one. *headdesk*)

I would like to have the story back by next Wednesday, if possible.

"Along the Way" is a post-DH story about Hermione, which assumes the epilogue to be canon but blithely ignores anything JKR may or may not have said in her post-DH interviews, which I have not read and have no intention of reading. (Okay, I learned via internet osmosis that Harry and Ron became Aurors and Hermione works for the Ministry, but I had kind of pegged those developments back around OotP and HBP, so that's no surprise. And I don't know which Ministry department JKR picked for Hermione, and I don't care, either.)

"Along the Way" is about 4,300 words long at the moment, written as a series of small scenes. It's in second person because that's the way the story wanted to go. It assumes Hermione/Ron and Harry/Ginny as background 'ships, because those are now canon, but it's not a romance story. (The name is femGENficathon, after all.) It's about family and idealism and work and figuring out who you are and how life is what happens on your way to other things. Or something like that.

I will love you forever if you help me out here. :-)
