1. I think I have gone off chicken again. About 12 years ago, I stopped eating chicken (and turkey) for nearly a year and a half -- not for any ethical reasons, but because I just got utterly sick of it. I'm starting to have that same "Oh god, no, anything but chicken!" reaction when I think about frying or baking the frozen chicken in my refrigerator, which is an ominous sign.

Fortunately, I still quite like fish. :-)

2. We're losing an employee at the smoke shop. AD, the other full-time worker (besides me; our manager, PM, is salaried, which is a different category altogether), has gotten a job as an editor/reporter at a small local newspaper, which is both a better use of her education and skills, and better paying. Yay for AD!

On the other hand, this means we're going to have to start doing the application and interview thing again, which is such a pain. You wouldn't think it would be hard to find people who can do basic cashier/stocker/cleaner work, but it is nothing short of dumbfounding how incompetent some of our applicants are. Also, a lot of them lie blatantly about their traffic ticket records, which we can easily see when we run a check on their licences, and that is not a good way to make a good impression.

...

I really need to work on pulling together my various college transcripts and seeing about finishing an associate's or bachelor's degree, if only so I have a piece of paper attesting to my basic intelligence and life skills. It's very frustrating to try getting a decent job without one, which is one of the two main reasons I've barely been looking during the past couple years.

3. JM had some sort of mini family crisis thing this morning and couldn't get to work. So AD called me at 7:30 -- which caused me to flail irritably at my alarm clock for several seconds until I woke up enough to realize the noise was coming from my phone, across the room -- and I went in early. Serendipitously, PM was driving along the same route and gave me a ride. :-)

It's nice to get extra money for working extra hours, but this was not a day to be at work any longer than necessary. I'm not saying work was bad -- it was merely tedious -- but today was a beautiful day. Upper seventies, barely a cloud in the sky, leaf buds beginning to unfurl on a few bushes and trees, fish hovering under the bridges in Cascadilla Creek...

Yeah. Definitely not a day to be stuck indoors.

I walked a rather meandering route home, just to enjoy the spring. :-)
