Today = not so great.

First, I was off work yesterday, which meant I stayed up too late Wednesday night and kind of crashed around dinnertime Thursday. I usually end up having very odd dreams when I do that, and this morning was no exception.

I dreamed about a land where, when it was in grave danger, a white horse would appear to choose a champion and grant him the power of life and death. Except this time, there were seven false white horses whose chosen riders each began to embody one of the seven deadly sins. The false horses were named after chess pieces: King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, Gallowglass, and Lady. (In my dreams, I do not have to follow Earth logic, nor the official rules of Earth games. Gallowglass = Pawn. Lady = Shieldmaiden, or a non-existant piece that shares the front row with pawns and can only move 1 space at a time, diagonally. Don't ask me what that would do to the flow of the game.)

The real 'hero' was chosen by the white horse, and among other things, he embodied Fear and Death. There were lots of scenes of very pretty horses running over very pretty landscapes, and some bits where the riders of the false horses began to question whether they were really chosen to save the land, and if so, why did they seem to be changing and doing bad things? Sometimes their horses also seemed to be dupes; sometimes not. Consistency is not required in dreams.

I woke up several times during the night and morning, leading to other equally odd dreams. This was because my smoke alarm and my carbon monoxide detector were apparently having low battery issues, but not quite low enough to make them beep every 30 seconds in warning the way they're supposed to. Instead, all night and all morning it was beep, wait 30 minutes, choked-off beep, wait 4 minutes, choked-off beep, wait 2 hours, beep, wait 30 seconds, beep, wait 45 minutes, choked-off beep, etc.

They're right next to each other, too, and sound exactly the same, so I couldn't tell for the longest time which one was being weird. (It was the smoke detector.)

Anyway, after I got that figured out and changed the batteries, MS called from work. She was having problems and wanted to know if I could come in early. (I could.) So I left for town early.

It was, of course, raining. And I discovered that my right sneaker seems to have sprung a leak in the the toe. Lovely.

Then, at the library, I had a book on hold that I'd forgotten I'd requested. Except I had no cash, since Friday is payday. So I couldn't pick it up. Argh.

I went to grab my paycheck and eat lunch, but as soon as I walked into the shop, MS was so relieved to see me that I felt too guilty to explain that I wasn't really there to relieve her until a bit later... so I punched in. Immediately after that, the Elmira order arrived. It's supposed to come around noon. This was 3pm. *headdesk*

I did grab a break at 4:15pm, get my paycheck into the bank, withdraw a bit of cash, and have a (very) belated lunch.

Work was work. Y'know, routine, pretty much. I was a touch later closing than I really wanted to be, but I had some surprise customers just at 9pm so I couldn't start hauling things to the back room until they left and I could lock the doors. However, tonight I remembered to lock the safe, which I forgot to do on Tuesday. (I felt like such an idiot when A. told me about that Wednesday afternoon...)

And now, when I reached the computer lab, I discover that the nearby convience store is closed because there's something wrong with the drains and they're being cleared out. "Check back in half an hour and see if they're done," the clerk said. All I wanted was something to drink, damnit, to stave off a dehydration headache!

*headdesk*

At least I don't have work tomorrow. And no, I'm NOT staying up too late and starting the whole damn cycle over again!
