I've been sick the past couple days. I seem to have caught all the secondary symptoms of a cold -- bone-deep tiredness, aches and joint pains all over, nagging headache, fluctuating internal temperature regulation -- but for some reason the primary symptoms like, say, a runny nose or a sore throat, have been almost completely absent. Very odd.

Anyway, tomorrow I pick up my rental car at 2:30pm, load a bag and all my laundry into the back seat, pick up my free turkey from Wegmans, and head down to New Jersey. Normally I'd go down US-17 to I-81 south to I-80 east to I-287, but trying to drive on 80 through the Delaware Water Gap on the day before Thanksgiving is suicidally stupid. So I'll be taking 17 all the way to the NY-NJ border, and then cutting southeast on some more local roads.

Thanksgiving will be me, Vicky, our parents, my Aunt Cara, and Ardis, so it involves both sides of the family. I am assured there will be green bean casserole. This is good. It's not a proper holiday meal if bean casserole is not involved. (I think this must be a Minnesotan thing.)

I'm not sure if there are any excursions planned for Thursday afternoon or evening, but MY plan is to stay home and watch football. *grin* (This has actually proved useful in the past, since it means I'm around to turn off the stove or stick something into the oven at a pre-arranged time.)

Friday morning Susan and I will meet for breakfast, and then I drive back up to Ithaca and return the car at 2:00pm.

...

The thing about holiday 'vacations' is that they're not really vacations at all. They're work. Enjoyable work, true, but not at all what I'd call relaxing!
