Belial is such a great character. *grin*

The interesting thing about writing backstory is that, because you're not using the canon characters and situations everyone is familiar with, you have to create and explain a lot more... which means that people who don't know a lot about canon probably would have an easier time understanding the story than they would when dealing with more typical fanfic (which tends to rely much more on canon knowledge). It's sort of a hybrid of fanfic and original fiction.
