I first read the Chronicles of Narnia when I was about eight. I was thirteen or fourteen before I noticed the Christian elements, and that only happened because someone specifically pointed them out to me. I always figured that Aslan was a deity -- I just thought he was a pagan god. (To be honest, I am still most comfortable reading the books that way, and pretending large sections of The Last Battle never happened.)
