I do think the BBC version was quite well done for its time and level of technology. My complaints, as you notice, are mostly about acting, fight scenes, and questionable script decisions rather than sfx... except for the animated sequences, where I wish they had gone with less technology and simply used fur suits and other costumes. The fur suits fade into the mental background after a while, and since they (and Aslan) are both unquestionably physically present in the same world as the human actors, they blend much better than the 2D animation, which looks as though it wandered over from a Saturday morning cartoon and couldn't figure out how to get home. *wry*
