My thoughts on the seasonality weirdness: The Avatar world clearly has negligible axial tilt because all the seasons are the same, north and south. I wish Nick.com still had the maps up so I could prove this. It still has seasons however, so there must be something else to cause them. Sooo, maybe additional orbital eccentricity? Summer and winter caused by orbital proximity to the sun as opposed to the planet's tilt. It's the best explanation I've come up with for something even the show's creators admit is weird.
The crazy hybrid monsters will actually be remarked upon later by the main characters. Non hyphenated animals are the exception rather than the rule in this world. I think the only normal animals seen in all three seasons are some fish, a cat and a bear.
Zuko... Lying and stealing and exile have a lot to teach him. This season gives him a lot of character development, and even a solo episode, unless you count flashbacks to his childhood.
