As I walked into town to pick up and deposit my paycheck, I realized that the plot of my untitled Star Trek story had a gaping hole. Basically, I had my Red Cross crew doing a compressed version of 20th/21st century diagnostic medical research... except in the 23rd century? They have tricorders.

Oops.

So I have gone back and handwaved that by saying Simplicity has some kind of mineral that gets into the colonists' bones and disrupts tricorder scans. Silly, I know, but it plugs the hole, which is all I really need.

8,850 words now! (I love a story that lets me babble about avian lung structures... in a very non-technical fashion, of course, but still. *grin*)
