Things I did at the store tonight:

1. Figured out a plot point for the dramatic climax ending of "Ashes." Which is nice in theory, except I am at least sixty thousand words away from reaching said ending, so I would much rather have figured out a smooth way to transition out of Riam talking to Sular at breakfast and into Riam talking with Morgalan and Zalir as they ride to the taint-house. My story, ladies and gentlemen: it hates me.

2. Gave up on "Ashes" and started writing a weird version of the Judeo-Christian creation myth that includes a random female wind spirit named Malk, who seems to be angling for a lesbian relationship with Lilith. I know this because I have 200 words of the beginning and 150 words of the ending, but as for the middle? Sorry, try again later. My brain, ladies and gentlemen: no, I don't understand it either.

3. Worked. By which I mean I brought up supplies from the basement, inventoried our Wind River and Farmer's Gold tobacco stocks, wrote up orders after consultation with PM, ordered instant lottery tickets, packaged loose rolling tobacco in small Ziploc baggies for sale, checked the magazine call-in list and pulled a number of old magazines and duplicate issues off the shelves, straightened the shelves, vacuumed, swept the sidewalk and back room, cleaned the counters, dealt with customers, answered the phone, put away the day's unsold newspapers, did the closing inventory of cigarettes and lottery tickets, put away some paperwork, took out the trash, and set up the coffee for the morning. My job, ladies and gentlemen: more complicated than it sounds at first description.

I think I should probably go to bed now.
