Not weird! I had actually started to wonder why I'd never been summoned after switching my voting registration and driver's license to Tompkins County about eight years ago, but then a few months back I got a sort of... governmental mail survey thing?... asking about juror eligibility and stuff, so after I returned that I was not terribly surprised to get summoned. And jury duty is one of those things that are incredibly inconvenient and boring, but I WANT to do it because civic responsibility YAY! \o/ (Occasionally I like to put my money where my mouth is. *grin*)

But it's such a crapshoot on who gets summoned and when. My dad, I think, has been summoned only twice in his life, but both times has been actually seated on a jury before the trial was abruptly canceled for some reason. My mom had a twenty-year period where she got summoned every three years like clockwork, but was never seated and I think didn't usually even get called up for voir dire questioning. Who even knows how the random selection works? It is a mystery!

Btw, I don't think reading true crime would necessarily make you ineligible. One of the people called for voir dire questioning on Wednesday said outright that she watches lots of CSI and other crime shows and was still seated as an alternate juror. :-)
