So that day did not go the way I was expecting it to go.

*blinks*

I was really tired yesterday and basically collapsed into bed half an hour after I got home from work, with the notion that I would then get up early and eat a proper breakfast and get some reading and writing done before heading in to work. Despite a night filled with weird stress/frustration dreams, I carried through on that plan and was in a good mood through my first two hours at work and my lunch break (where I got to eat actual food instead of taking a nap, yay!). And while I then had to check in and price the P&K delivery basically on my own while BW did cash-up and PM ran some errands, I was still feeling pretty good and looking forward to heading home and finishing my current art project.

And then BW got a call from home saying...

Okay, so, the saga of BW and his roof. A while back (year and a half? two years? I forget exactly) he decided he needed a new roof, but he didn't want to pay a professional roofing contractor to do the job. Instead he tried to re-roof his house himself, with some help from my other coworker RE. Things went predictably haywire and they had to do patch work two or three times after they thought they'd finished. But they did finish in the end. BW had a new roof. Yay roof!

Then about a month ago we had a moderate windstorm and half of the roof flipped up onto the other half, like a fold-back lid on a box. BW was, I think, making some progress on getting an insurance payout for that, but so far as I know the roof itself had not yet been repaired.

Today the other half of his roof blew off. (ETA: Whoops, no, he was unclear in his haste. I have since learned that actually, the previously flipped-over half blew off and crashed to pieces in his yard. At least it is no longer weighing down the intact half?)

*headdesk*

So BW hurried home to see what could be done to mitigate the damage (and reassure his... I feel silly calling her his girlfriend, since they're both sixty if they're a day, but they're not married and "partner" carries overtones of "same-sex partner" which is not the case here, so in summary... ???) and I got stuck with closing the store. PM stayed an hour late to help and we decided I would just shut everything down at 8pm instead of 9pm, but even so. Not the day I had planned on.

Nrgh.

In other smoke shop news, as of Monday we are changing our schedule slightly. We will now close at 8pm on a regular basis, except for Thursdays and Fridays when we will still be open until 9pm. Mr. Speakerphone and PM made that decision jointly after doing several months of analysis on our 7-8pm and 8-9pm sales -- we just do not make enough profit to justify the overhead costs of staying open that late. So I will start having an extra hour in the evenings several times a week.

...

I think I should get more serious about going back to college. I want a trained monkey certification in my pocket in case I need to find a new job.
