Jack was trying to enter a polyamorous moirallegiance with Rose AND the Doctor, simultaneously... while also leaving the door open for redrom flings. Very kinky! *wink*
Also, the metacrisis Doctor is not quite the same person as Ten anymore -- remember, there's a bit of Donna in his genetics and personality, and Donna is very good at bringing Ten down to earth and calling him on his shit -- so it's perfectly possible that his relationship with Rose won't be unstable, or at least much less so and in different ways.
(For the record, I don't actually ship Doctor/Rose. I prefer the Doctor and his companions as moirails rather than matesprits, and I find One True Love a boring and overdone story. Which is not to say that I dislike Doctor/Rose, just that it's not something I have strong feelings about one way or another. The only Doctor Who ship I care about on its own merits (instead of caring about because I trust a writer, or because I think the characters being shipped are interesting on their own and thus like reading about them in general) is Doctor <> / <3 Tardis. Which is canon. *grin*)
