In canon, I am pretty sure Naruto would turn this route down flat -- and that's assuming it even occurred to him. In the "Tides" AU, though, he's been through a different set of experiences, including several months as a missing-nin (for good reasons, but even so), which means he's thinking along more practical/sneaky lines -- more trickster and less savior, so to speak. Furthermore, he already has Sasuke with him and Sakura so he's not as fixated on I MUST CHANGE PEOPLE'S MINDS AND MAKE THEM SEE THE LIGHT. The really important person's mind is already changed. :-)
