I don't do anything with the mulberries myself. I'm allergic to raw fruit and too lazy to turn them into syrup or preserves. It's also a little tricky to tell when the berries are ripe, since they are white mulberries -- they just turn vaguely translucent rather than darken into the more common purplish-black. But the squirrels love them, and any that don't fall onto my porch (which is a lot of them; the tree overfruits and then discards a third of the crop for various reasons including wind and rain and who-knows-what) are summarily devoured.

Hmm. Do pepper flakes dissolve well? Or would a hot pepper oil mixture be more practical?
